“Birthday!”: The Beatles – White Album turns 40
It’ll have been forty years by November, but right now, in the unique 1968, the fab four were on studio, recording the 30 premium tracks of the only band’s double album, The Beatles, commonly known as White Album. One of the group’s masterpiece, it was officially launched on November 22 that year. Unforgettable times, irreplaceable work.
The White Album is a compilation of what was best in The Beatles. In fact, they were already falling apart, Ringo even walked out during recording, momentarily quitting the band. McCartney’s troubadour’s gift is felt deeply to the soul in “Mother Nature’s Son”, a recollection about his childhood, and “Hey Jude”, written for the album, but out in the final cut. John’s irreverence plays the part in “Glass Onion”, meant to mislead people trying to find meaning in his lyrics, and in “The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill”, “a bit of a joke”, like he said at the time. Nevertheless, he went bottomless in a meaningful statement on his feelings towards the troublesome relationship with his mother in “Julia”.
In addition to Lennon and McCartney’s predictable role in the production, not for the first time the flaring geniality of George Harrison stands out, solid and mature at this point. Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” counts on the skills of guitar hero Eric Clapton and the combination gives birth to one of the most enduring Beatles songs. You can still benefit from George’s contribution in “Piggies”, with strong social criticism, “Long Long Long” (in which clues on the assumed Paul’s death could supposedly be heard in the last 30 seconds) and “Savoy Truffle”, an homage to Clapton’s love for chocolate. George was filled with the guru Maharishi Mahesh’s teachings, after their time out for a spiritual retreat in India (not too much for the other three members) and the Hindu influence on his melodies and lyrics would still be sensed for times to come. As for Ringo, for the first time he had the chance to have one of his compositions recorded, “Don’t Pass Me By”, which he had worked upon since 1963.
Some other all time Beatles classics compound the album: “Back In The U.S.S.R.”, “Revolution 9″, “Cry Baby Cry” and “Birthday”, to mention a few. For the original vinyl edition, four posters of each member integrated the pack, a fan souvenir. The ones who could buy the record fortunately have them (the writer included!). And aged bedroom walls display John, Paul, George and Ringo while a new generation is initiated into an undying worship.

Leti, pois é, como você sabe esse 2008 é ano de comemorar muitos aniversários legais e outros nem tanto mas marcantes das décadas de 60 e 70. Esse White Album até hoje é uma referência impossível de driblar.

Meu refinamento musical é meio duvidoso mas tenho que reconhecer que as músicas desse grupo marcaram época.

Amo os Beatles e na minha opinião o White Albun é o melhor disco deles.
Adoro Yer blues, Helter Skelter, e as duas Revolution. Conheci os Beatles com esse álbum , em vinil. Meu pai me mostrou todas as faixas e todos esses pôsteres.
Mas meu álbum preferido é o Revolver.
